President's Message

February 2007

I don’t know about you, but this past fall was just a whirlwind of activity. October was busy with the Fall Carriage House Show–and a lovely show it was too with 42 works by 22 artists. The President’s Awards went to Martin Knox for Bethlehem Steel Co. and the Lehigh River, PA.

December saw the opening of Conversations in Color with works by Paul Baylock, Melanie Carr, Jen Guarino, and Anne Hebrebrand. We had a fantastic turnout at the opening reception.

We are still seeking ways to raise funds, of course. We want desperately to improve the building so we that we can do more: more programming, grander events, and a fuller exhibition schedule. But the ALNB is a completely volunteer-run organization. We have no employees. Volunteers main-tain the building, organize and over-see programs, coordinate exhibitions, cater events, and pay the bills. It’s a huge undertaking with no paid staff and an extremely limited budget. It also means that volunteers do all of the fundraising–whether that means sending letters asking for donations or writing grants to foundations and state agencies. We do what we can, but there just aren’t enough of us.

Would you like to volunteer to help the Art League? We can use your help! Please feel free to call, email, or chat with me at the next opening. I’d be happy to talk with you.

I look forward to seeing you at our next event!

Sincerely,
Nancy Messenger
