Seeing Red
OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS
Exhibition Dates: February 6th – March 1st, 2026
Opening Reception: Friday, February 6th, 2026, 6–8 PM
Location: The Art League of New Britain, 30 Cedar Street, New Britain, CT
The Art League of New Britain proudly presents Seeing Red, a group exhibition returning for the 2026 season. This show invites artists to explore the power, symbolism, and emotion behind the color red — a hue long associated with passion, strength, danger, and transformation.
Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme through personal, cultural, and political lenses — from love and anger to vitality and renewal. The exhibition also embraces themes of identity and gender expression, recognizing red’s deep ties to the body, emotion, and voice. Whether as a statement of empowerment, protest, or vulnerability, red has always been a color that refuses to go unnoticed.

About the Juror - Antony Zito
Antony Zito is an artist whose work and career are deeply rooted in both Connecticut and New York City. After growing up in northern Connecticut, Zito spent over three decades immersed in New York’s Lower East Side art scene, where he ran a gallery and portrait studio on Ludlow Street through 2006. His portrait paintings and works on found and recycled materials document generations of artists, musicians, and local figures, tracing the cultural life of the East Village from the 1990s through the present. His work has been widely exhibited and collected internationally, and has appeared in films by Jim Jarmusch, including Coffee and Cigarettes and Broken Flowers.
In addition to his studio practice, Zito is a founding member and Director Emeritus of 4heads, a New York City nonprofit organization created by artists for artists. Through initiatives such as the Governors Island Art Fair and the Portal Art Fair, 4heads has built a nationally recognized platform for emerging and underrepresented artists, welcoming tens of thousands of visitors annually while remaining free and accessible to both artists and the public. Zito’s long-standing commitment to artist advocacy, education, and independent exhibition spaces continues through his teaching practice in East Granby, Connecticut, and informs his thoughtful and experienced approach to jurying.
